Special First Wednesday Edition!
DJ Tonearm: AMPLIFIED SOUL! 6pm, FREE! 6:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Hey all,
Amp Sol is switching this month from Tuesday to Wednesday, May 6th. Sorry for any inconvenience, but hey, since we're on the subject of the month of May, this Wednesday's show will feature a tribute to the uprisings of May 1968 and Revolutionaries and Freedom Fighters everywhere. The show starts at 6pm but should start to peak around 7pm when we'll give a listen to a couple of angry tracks by Black Panther Party member Elaine May and the blistering spoken word rant "Have You Ever Had the Blues?" by (pre-Homicide actor) Yaphet Kotto. Nina Simone will figure into the proceedings with "Revolution, Parts 1 and 2"—a scorching answer of sorts to the Lennon/McCartney cut. (Dig it: "The only way that we can stand, in fact / Is when you get your foot off our back.") We'll even check out Marzette Watts' free jazz excursion, "Backdrop for Urban Revolution," Syl Johnson's deeply impassioned, "I'm Talking 'Bout Freedom," plus recorded highlights from a couple Eldridge Cleaver speeches. Alright! Power to the People!
