BURN DOWN the DiSCO! ~ 80s DANCE PARTY! ~ presents: 4AD Tribute. In January of 1980, Ivo Watts-Russell and Peter Kent teamed up to release a Bauhaus 7-inch called Dark Entries, and 4AD was introduced to the world. That number combined with those two letters signified music that was dark, dreamy, and decorous, its roomy reverb conjuring quiet drama of introversion. While the sound of Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, and Dead Can Dance more or less defined the label, 4AD also made room for the combustible punk of the Birthday Party, the goth dance rhythms of Xmal Deutschland, Tones On Tail, Modern English, Wolfgang Press and Clan of Xymox and eventually the gritty American indie of Throwing Muses and the Pixies. And also the beautiful album art work by the graphic design of 23 Envelope gave great visual distinction to the lable that I personally poured over while listening by myself in my room. ~ (along with our usual array of groove, wave, synth pop, goth, and other underground club favorites) ~ DJ 2shy-shy & DJ melt w/U FREE! 9:30 pm |
