DIPPERS (f/k/a/ Thigh Master)
dippersband.com
While many guitar-pop groups develop more easygoing tendencies, Melbourne Australia’s DIPPERS (formerly known as Thigh Master) are noted for a more rambunctious approach. Hook-laden exertion filled with imperious string bends and riffage framing witty tales of alternate realities through a neuro-divergent lens concocted by songwriter Matthew Ford, along with co-songwriter and producer Innez Tulloch.
The intervals of ragged, jangly guitar riffs interspersed with waves of sonic mischief likened to the sounds of Kiwi bands a la Toy Love, The Bats and 3Ds, Australian bands of the same era such as The Cannanes, The Moles and early Go Betweens, and power-pop groups such as Big Star, The Toms and Cleaners From Venus.
“For anyone looking to recapture the lo-fi, high pop IQ glory days of Flying Nun or anyone trying to keep up with the ever-growing wave of great guitar pop bands from Australia. Energetic jangle, joyous clang, and glorious pop.” - All Music
“Scrappy and busted guitar pop.” - Noisey
“Catchyasfuck and perfectly unpretentious guitarpop split by venomspitting gloom…a face slap of scrappy punk revelry.” - Rolling Stone
Now
Peeled from the dreamscape of your most (secret) aspirations, only to appear as an apparition of benefice made manifest before you. Three, there's that number, three magical personages intent on sharing joy and happiness, with the intention of bringing YOU to "that" magical state. Hannah, Ollie, and Will.
THE TELEPHONE NUMBERS
https://thetelephonenumbers.bandcamp.com/
Pure pop for sad people.
“The Telephone Numbers are a trio featuring Thomas Rubenstein, Charlie Ertola, and Glenn Donaldson (Skygreen Leopards, Art Museums) coming together for a classic jangle-pop tumble through the sunny streets. Akin to Donaldson’s latest work with The Reds Pinks and Purples, but cleaner, less solitary and somber. There’s still a bittersweet tinge to their first single and it shines through on the title track, bringing to mind The Field Mice and later-period Felt. “I Took A Walk” is yearning, wrestling with a heavy heart, and not always winning. The band caps the single nicely with the spare, but sweet “I Don’t Wanna Cry,” a cover by pre-Big Hat band The Keys. This was practically made for sitting on the floor, staring at the ceiling and stilling oneself only to push the needle back to the beginning once more.” - Raven Sings the Blues
