Bios:
Cynthia Lin ~ Creator of the ambitious "100daysofukulele" song project on youtube.. Composer, ukulele teacher, vocal coach, and local uke events organizers, she has released 4 albums. She performs solo, with a jazz trio, and with her acclaimed Bay Area band, Cynthia Lin and the Blue Moon All Stars.
Alzara & Brother Spellbinder ~ well-crafted songs with old world ache and modern angst. As the daughter of a rock drummer, Alzara learned early that music could move mountains. She works as a social worker in public health with low income SF residents and has a deep interest in myth, time, and how people heal.
Amity Rose ~ Brandishing an array of vintage ukes, Miss Amity Rose captivates her audience with haunting melodies and vivid, poetic lyrics. An award winning songwriter, Miss Amity Rose is known to spin tales while gazing through her Parisian opera glasses into that space-time continuum...she occasionally consorts with Dead Cowboys...tune in for the next adventure.
Caroline Joy Alegre ~ Ms. Alegre has been described as 'intelligent, relatable, and wonderfully charming.' Songs from her album 'Green Nearby' were featured in a Rolling Stone busking competition and in commercials on national t.v. and radio. C.J. is also a lawyer with a day job, advocating for folks diagnosed with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities.
Lake Lady Ukulele Project ~ Singer Charise Sowells began writing songs as a teen on a 4-track Tascam. She now aims to change the world's preconceived notion of ukuleles one song at a time. Combining ukulele and vocals with bass and accordion, her Oakland, CA band plays alternative folk pop with a soulful twist.
Melinda Baile ~ Gracious host of Bernal 'Flats" Open Mic, Melinda has been singing and making up songs for as long as she can remember. She is inspired by her banjolele, Little One, and finding new ways to describe love, magic and freedom. Her songs dance between folk, jazz and pop. She is a full-time Pilates teacher, making the world a safer place one song and one spine at a time.
Corner Laughers ~ "Their indie pop is sassy and smart, intelligent and intricate, twee with bite" (Paul Lester, The Guardian). An intriguing mixture of bookish and badass, the group features literate lyrics, catchy melodies, soaring harmonies, and thunderous rhythms. They're currently celebrating the release of their fourth record, the critically acclaimed "Matilda Effect."
The Not Marys - Allison (not Mary) has the most extensive and eclectic collection of handmade vintage inspired dresses on the western seaboard and if you hit on her ineptly she will eviserate you in song form within the fortnight. Josh (not Mary) is either a time traveling civil war veteran hobo with expensive taste or the biggest hipster in a fifty kilometer radius. They are not lizards. They are not unicycles. They are definitely not Mary.
Alison Faith Levy - The Bay Area's beloved children's musician usually appears with her Big Time Tot Rock band, playing groovy 60s/70s inspired rock n' roll for kids. She has also been in many SF indie bands over the years, including the Loud Family and McCabe & Mrs. Miller. Although she performs regularly on guitar, piano, and accordion, this will be her first ever public performance on ukulele, and plans to bring the house down with her original Chanukah hit "All I Want for Chanukah is a Ukulele," among other rickety but earnest tunes.
