Lee Bob & The Truth are a bluesy, rock band from San Francisco "for kids and dreamers." The band is a collective of accomplished musicians. There's Lee Bob Watson, the songwriter/producer formerly of Jackpot, Grammy-winning guitarist Steve Suzuki Wyreman, to founding member of The Park, Josh Lippi, among others. The band is dropping their debut album, The Truth LP, in early 2015. In anticipation of the album release, we premiere their new ‘60s-esque single, "Let The Hate In (I Won’t)." The earnestness of Watson’s voice pairs well with the acoustic folk guitar. The song gradually builds, layering in organ, keys, electric guitar licks, and drums. The song climaxes with all instruments driving in a powerful 4/4 time. The band sings loud and proud, “I won’t let the hate in!” with plenty of gospel inspiration. This mix personifies the attitude of San Francisco in the 1960s and the Civil Rights Movement. The song is super timely given the current political and cultural climate caused by recent events. The opening lyrics are, “Oh, no, / here we go again.” The song continues, painting a picture of doing what you can to overcome hate and intolerance. It's a gentle reminder that music can stand for something. That protesting injustice doesn’t require long winded speeches. A simple song will do. |
