For some reason, it feels way longer than a month since the last Writers With Drinks. Not sure what that's about! In any case, we are back, as an in-person event. We are strictly requiring proof of vaccination, and audience members must remain masked when they are not actively drinking. The good news is, we got one hell of a show for you, including legendary critic and writer Lucy Sante!

MoMA has acquired films of Bertei playing the lead role in The Offenders, and performing her poem "The Ragazzi Manifesto". She has toured with, written songs for, and recorded as a backing vocalist for artists as diverse as Tears for Fears, Thomas Dolby, Sandra Bernhard, Culture Club, Scritti Politti, Whitney Houston, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Sheena Easton, Oleta Adams, Lydia Lunch, the Pointer Sisters, Matthew Sweet, and Sophie B. Hawkins. The author of Peter and the Wolves and Why Labelle Matters, her first story "1970" was published in The New Fuck You by editor Eileen Myles. Her next book, Twist: a Memoir will be released in the spring of 2022.
Mike DeCapite's novel Jacket Weather is just out from Soft Skull Press. His other published work includes the novel Through the Windshield, the chapbooks Sitting Pretty and Creamsicle Blue, and the short-prose collection Radiant Fog. A former Mission resident, DeCapite lives in New York City.
Baruch Porras-Hernandez is a writer, performer, organizer, professional MC/Host, curator, stand up comedian, and the author of the chapbooks “I Miss You, Delicate” and “Lovers of the Deep Fried Circle” both with Sibling Rivalry Press. He had the honor of touring with the legendary Sister Spit Queer poetry tour in 2019, is a is a two-time winner of Literary Death Match, a regular host of literary shows for KQED, and was named a Writer to Watch in 2016 by 7×7 Magazine. His poetry can be found with Write Bloody Publishing, The Tusk, Foglifter, Assaracus and many more. He has been an artist in residence at The Ground Floor at Berkeley Rep, a Lambda Literary Fellow in Poetry, and Playwriting. His solo show “Love in the Time of Piñatas” got a clapping man from the SF Chronicle and was performed to sold-out houses at Epic Party Theatre in December of 2019. He is the head organizer of ¿Donde Esta Mi Gente? a Latinx literary performance series.
Nazelah Jamison is a Bay Area-based performance poet, author, actor, vocalist and emcee. Her first book of poetry, Evolutionary Heart, was released on Nomadic Press in 2016. Her work can also be found in Culture Counts Magazine (2021), The Racket Journal : Issue Fifteen (2020) and others. In her spare time, Nazelah enjoys writing horror screenplays and saving the day. She hosts the Nomadic Press Virtual Open Mic every Friday on zoom, and gives the best hugs in the Bay Area.

Up next: Never Say You Can’t Survive, a book about how to use creative writing to get through hard times; and a short story collection called Even Greater Mistakes. Her other books include The City in the Middle of the Night and All the Birds in the Sky. Her fiction and journalism have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Slate, McSweeney's, Mother Jones, the Boston Review, Tor.com, Tin House, Teen Vogue, Conjunctions, Wired Magazine, and other places.
