About the readers/performers: Ingrid Rojas Contreras was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. Her essays and short stories have appeared in the Los Angeles Review of Books, Electric Literature, Guernica, and Huffington Post, among others. She has received fellowships and awards from The Missouri Review, Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference, VONA, Hedgebrook, The Camargo Foundation, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures. She is the book columnist for KQED Arts, the Bay Area’s NPR affiliate. Her first novel, Fruit of the Drunken Tree, will be out in paperback from Anchor Books in May 2019. Marga Gomez is GLAAD Award winning writer/performer of thirteen solo plays which have been presented nationally including Off-Broadway engagements at The Public Theater, Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre and in San Francisco at Brava, The Marsh, The Magic Theatre and Theater Rhinoceros. The San Francisco Bay Guardian named Marga “Best Of The Bay Comedian” in 2017 and 2018. Huffpost named her an "Agent of Change" in 2015. She has been described as “deliciously cheeky and incendiary” by the New York Times. She also tours nationally as one of the first Out comedians in the business. Her television appearances include LOGO, Comedy Central and HBO’s “Comic Relief,” at the invitation of Robin Williams who called her “Amazing… a lesbian Lenny Bruce.” Sting once told her “You’re Fucking Funny.”Marga teaches solo performance online and in San Francisco at The Kearny Street Workshop, A.C.T and Brava. Selections from Gomez’s work have been published in several anthologies including Extreme Exposure (TCG Books), HOWL (Crown Press), Out Loud & Laughing (Anchor Books), Contemporary Plays by American Women of Color (Routledge), When I Knew (Harper-Collins) and Out of Character (Bantam Books.) Her upcoming performances can be found on margagomez.com Rachelle Escamilla is the producer and host of "Out of Our Minds on KKUP," the longest running poetry radio show in the US. She is the author of "Imaginary Animal" (Willlow Books 2015) and "Me Drawing a Picture of Me[n]" (Willow Books 2019). She teaching Poetry & Social Action at California State University Monterey Bay. | Achy Obejas is the author of The Tower Of the Antilles, which was a PEN/Faulkner finalist, as well as the critically acclaimed novels Ruins and Days of Awe. She edited and translated (into English) the anthology Havana Noir, and has since translated Junot Díaz, Rita Indiana, Wendy Guerra, and many others. In 2014, she was awarded a USA Ford Fellowship for her writing and translation. Josiah Luis Alderete is a full blooded Pocho spanglish speaking poet from La Area Bahia who learned to write poetry in the kitchen of his Mama’s Mexican restaurant. He was a founding member of San Francisco's outspoken word troupe The Molotov Mouths. He is also a radio insurgente whose stories have appeared on KALW’s “Crosscurrents" and whose show “The Spanglish Power Hour” aired on KPFA. He curates and hosts the Latinx reading series SPEAKING AXOLOTL in Oakland which happens every third Thursday of the month at Nomadic Press Studios. About Writers With Drinks: Writers With Drinks has won numerous "Best ofs" from local newspapers, and has been mentioned in 7x7, Spin Magazine and one of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City novels. The spoken word "variety show" mixes genres to raise money for local causes. The award-winning show includes poetry, stand-up comedy, science fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery, literary fiction, erotica, memoir, zines and blogs in a freewheeling format.
