SOUL FINGER | FRIDAY 2/23 | NO COVER
Black History Month Special Edition: Featuring politically charged speeches and musical statements by Black Panthers (Eldridge Cleaver, Elaine Brown) as well as Black Power anthems from the height of the Civil Rights Era (James Brown and others).
SOUL FINGER features ‘60s and ‘70s vinyl obscurities and dance floor favorites. Stop by early for some low-key organ jazz or drop in later for the raw and wild R&B, soul, and funk.
*Pictured here is model/actress Peggy Ann Freeman (aka Donyale Luna), widely regarded as "the first Black supermodel." Beginning in 1965, she acted in several underground films created by Andy Warhol and made scene-stealing appearances in William Klein's "Who Are You, Polly Maggoo?" (1966) and Federico Fellini's "Satyricon" (1969). (The latter two are both available from the San Francisco Public Library.)
