In the darkest days of classic soul in SF there was a monthly soul and mod party at the original 330 Ritch Street. Established in the nineties, IN'n'OUT was a tribute to our mod roots…sixties soul, seventies soul, northern soul, r'nb, funk and a few mod beat favorites…artists such as: Darrell Banks, The O'Jay's, Bobby Hutton, The Detroit Executives, Major Lance, Otis Smith, Felice Taylor, Willie Tee, Moses Smith, Ray Charles, Jimmy Smith, Martha & The Vandellas, Rodger Collins,The Equals, The Action and The Style Council to name a few. If you're familiar with the mod/jazz/soul diaspora you know the deal…we like to go deep…no comps, no edits, no bs…all original 45s the way they were meant to be heard. At IN'n'OUT, the mix was on point, the style unquestioned, the dancing infectious and the all-nighters were legendary…In the summer of 2014, we're bringing it back! IN'n'OUT - soul and mod classics from the '60s & '70s! Third Thursdays at The Make-Out Room 9:30pm, 21+, no cover-our love is free. It's like we ate Pitchfork, stole your iPod and then rode off on your track bike. $10, $5 before 11 pm. Photos by Brian Pritchard. Be our friend! http://www.facebook.com/lastnite00s ---"Well, folks, the snake has officially reached its tail. The crew behind the '90s-themed Debaser party has gotten together to create "Last Nite," a brand new event that, much like its parent, is dedicated to reviving a specific moment in time. In this case, it's all about that brief period in the early-'00s when garage rock, dance punk, and electroclash all emerged and combined to form the soundtrack to the-then nascent hipster lifestyle. Resident DJs Jamie Jams and EmDee will be on hand to take you back to the days when "deck" was almost an adjective." - Derek Opperman, SF Weekly "Oh gawd it's here: let the retro-00s (retr00s?) commence! Jamie Jams and Emdee, the fiendish minds behind seminal '90s revival party Debaser, kick it into the Interpol-Shins-Strokes-White Stripes era and take you slightly back to "a time when punks suddenly remembered how to dance" — you could still hear guitars on the radio." - Marke B., SF Bay Guardian
ATTACK of the TYPEWRITERS! Political letter-writing for everyone. WE bring the TYPEWRITERS -- YOU bring the OUTRAGE! ~ FREE! 6:00 pm Not too many people know it, but one letter = 100 votes. Really! And it's easier when you're not alone. Grab a drink and tell the President (or any politician) what you want. You can write about anything you want, and we'll have a sample letter or two in case you're not sure what to write about. No one can stop you, after all: It's your right! We'll help you compose your (short!) letter, if you want, and answer all your questions. We also bring stamps, envelopes, tons of paper, a board to tally how many voters we've repped, a ding-bell, and notebooks full of letters we've written in the past and responses we've gotten; it's sometimes funny and sometimes sad. This is a free happy hour event. "Writer, drinker, arts-minded political activist, and bon vivant Hiya Swanhuyser is combining her interests in this neato, monthly, potentially wonderfully absurd thingie. Come to the Makeout Room, grab a drink, and then bang out a letter to any politician you have beef with. "One letter = 100 votes," she says. Cocktails and truth to power, yasss. She'll bring the actual, clickety-clackety typewriters! You bring the drink-fueled rage!" - Marke B, San Francisco Bay Guardian http://www.sfbg.com/2012/12/04/phantasms?page=0%2C2 "Vent your political spleen at this monthly letter-writing party that provides free typewriters, stamps, envelopes, and paper — i.e., pretty much everything you need (give or take a few lobbyists) to get your voice heard in the halls of power." - John Graham, SF Weekly http://www.voiceplaces.com/attack-of-the-typewriters-san-francisco-bay-area-3400510-e/ MAKE OUT FIRST MONDAYS ~ LIVE JAZZ!
