Africa Goes Funky! ~ A special tribute to Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou. This obscure band founded in 1968 comes from a small african country of Benin bordering Nigeria, recording more than 50 albums and hundreds of 45s. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo were also one of the most innovative groups that developed its own distinctive style of highly danceable, hard-driving funk! With an exquisite groove, a homemade Afrobeat funk that combined vodoun (voodoo) rituals, Latin music and James Brown--influenced jams, they played with the likes of Manu Dibango, Fela Kuti and Gnonnas Pedro.
