A super hot night of music by Lila Sklar's Bela Ruino and Angela LaFlamme.
Bela Ruino - "beautiful ruin" in Esperanto - is an exploration of musical contrasts, that celebrates the beauty in entropy, and the light in the dark. Led by dynamic violinist, singer, and songwriter Lila Sklar, Bela Ruino weaves together influences from the Middle East, the Balkans, and traditional popular song structures to create a sound that's both haunting and electrifying. The band includes Max Baloian on guitar, Safa Shokrai on acoustic bass, Aaron Kierbel on drums and Jill Rogers on guitar and backing vocals, with special guest Darren Johnston trumpet. (8:30 pm)
Angela LaFlamme heads up a six-piece band from San Francisco that deftly re-imagines some of our favorite music from ’20s through the ’00s into her own swinging sound. Drawing on favorites from Billie Holiday to Tom Waits, the Cure to Count Basie, and also iher own original material, this sextet embodies more than just a retro jukebox, it creates a memorable live show experience.
